Bible Readings
Solomon's Wisdom Proverbs (Proverbs 6:6-8; 10:1; 17:17) Reading
King Solomon prayed to God for wisdom. He wanted to make good choices and lead God's people well. Some of the wise things Solomon taught are written down in the Book of Proverbs.

Solomon taught about working hard by telling a story about ants. He said, "Pay attention to ants. They work hard. Because of their hard work, they always have food. You should not be lazy, but hard-working like ants."

Solomon also said, "When you make good choices, your parents will be happy. When you make bad choices, your parents will be sad."

Solomon taught about how to be a good friend and family member. He said, "Friends love and care for each other all the time. Family members help when there is trouble."

I Wonder....
  1. if there is a time that I can be more than one idea at once?
  2. how I can show goodness to others when sometimes it's hard?
  3. why is Solomon's prayer's the one who was mentioned the most in Proverbs?
  4. why the word wisdom gets written a lot in the book of Proverbs?
  5. what are some other words that describe wisdom?

Discussion Questions
  1. What wise things have you been taught?
  2. If you were going to tell a story about working hard. What would it be?

Tips for Adults
The Bible says that Solomon was the wisest man ever. His insght was God's answer to Solomon's prayer that he be able to tell the difference between good and evil. Much of the book of Proverbs is said to be a collection of Solomon's wise sayings. Shorter sections are said to be written by other people. The wisdom in the Book of Proverbs helps us listen, learn, and to think and act differently. Having wisdom helps us make good choices and do what is right.

Bible Readings
Right and Wrong (Proverbs 10) Reading
How do you know to do the right thing? Who do you learn from? Proverbs is a collection of things to remember. Jewish people used them to teach their children and one another. Proverbs helped the people learn more about who God wanted them to be and what to do. In these proverbs, we meet Wise, Silly, Bad, and Good. Through them we see how we are responsible for what we do. They help us see how we are a mix of bad and good: Bad and good words. Bad and good things we do toward other living things. And bad and good things we think in our heads. Each proverb (each line) is one idea.

Wise listens to make Wise's parents proud. Silly makes Silly's parents sad.

Bad does things that are wrong. God won't listen to Bad. But Good will be heard by God.

Wise works hard. Silly sleeps all day.

Good is loved by God. Bad doesn't tell the truth.

Wise listens to instructions. Silly talks and pays no attention to what anyone is saying.

Good tries to do the right thing. Bad tries to hide wrong behavior.

Wise listens to other people. Silly talks a lot.

Wise learns from mistakes. Silly ignores instructions.

Silly does not speak with love. Wise does not talk too much.

Good cares for other people. Silly does not.

When everything is upside down, God will care for Good.

Good funs joy in life. Bad is unhappy.

Good cares will tell the truth. Bad will be silent.

Wise does the right thing. Bad only does what is wrong.
