Overview of Philippians
The apostle Paul was a prisoner in Rome, locked in chains for his faith in Jesus. He was suffering and knew he might die soon. But his words in this letter may surprise you. From his prison cell, paul wrote a hopeful and joyful letter to his friends in the city of Philippi.
Paul began this letter by remembering that the Philippians were his trusted partners in spreading the word about Jesus (Phil 1:3-8). Their friendship went back to the time Paul started their church (Acts 16:11-40).
Then Paul wrote important lessons about living with joy that were true for his friends at Philippi and for us today. He taught that we find joy when we serve each other like Jesus served us (Phil 2:1-11). He taught that knowing Jesus is the most valuable part of life (Phil 4:6-8). Paul taught that we can be happy whether we are hungry or well-fed, well-off or poor (Phil 4:12), and that we can face anything because God makes us strong (Phil 4:13). God will meet our every need (Phil 4:19). This letter shows us that Jesus can make us joyful no matter what we face in life!

Practice what you have learned, received, heard, or saw other faithful people do. God's peace will be with you. Even when life is hard, God gives us strength and helps us be thankful."

Each Sunday there will be a class addressing the reading for that week. The classes will engage the particular Bible book for that week, paying specific attention to a theme or topic. These classes are hybrid and will meet each Sunday, in-person (EM307/308) and on Zoom, at 10:05am. The Zoom link is at the bottom of this email and is the same for each week.
