Elijah and Elisha (2 Kings 2:1-12) Reading
Elisha knew God would soon take his teacher, Elijah, to heaven. But there was still so much Elisha needed to learn!
Elisha wanted to be a great prophet and leader like his teacher. So he followed Elijah everywhere. He watched Elijah care for God's people. He listened to Elijah share God's messages.
"What can I do for you before I leave to be with God?" Elijah asked Elisha.
Elisha thought and thought. He wanted Elijah to stay much longer. "Please share your spirit with me," Elisha said.
His teacher responded, "You have asked a hard thing. If you watch me as I'm being taken up to heaven you will receive my spirit."
As the two walked and talked, a chariot of fire whooshed down from the sky!
"Father, Father!" Elisha shouted. The chariot and its horses rode between them. The wind was strong. It twisted and blew! The wind ROARED! Elisha didn't stop watching.
The strong wind and the chariot of fire carried Elijah up to heaven!
Elisha's teacher was gone. But the next moment, Elisha felr his teacher's spirit enter HIM.
Elisha felt brave and strong. He stood tall.

Elisha and the Widows Jar (2 Kings 4:1-7) Reading
One day a poor widow came to Elisha for help. Elisha was a prophet. A prophet speaks up when things are unfair and helps people know what God wants them to do. Her husband had died, and she did not have enough money to take care of her sons.
"What do you still have left in your house?" Elisha asked the woman.
"I just have one small jar of oil," said the woman.
"One jar of oil is enough," said Elisha. "Here's what I want you and your children to do: Go and find as many empty jars as you can. Look all over your house. Borrow empty jars from your neighbors. Get lots and lots of empty jars."
"Now," said Elisha, "go inside your house with your sons and close the door. Start pouring the oil from your one jar of oil into all the jars."
The woman and her sons carried the empty jars into the house and shut the door.
The woman filled one jar, then two jars, and then three jars until there were no more jars. Then the oil ran out.
The woman went back to Elisha. She told him what happened.
"Good!" said Elisha. "Sell the jars of oil to get the money you need to care for you and your sons."
And the woman did.

Elisha and the Servant Girl (2 Kings 5:1-19) Reading
A Servant girl worked for the wife of a man named Naaman. Naaman was a general in the army of a country called Aram. Naaman was an important man, and he had a skin disease that made him feel miserable.
The servant girl knew about a prophet named Elisha. The servant girl told Naaman's wife that the prophet could heal Naaman's wife told Naaman what the servant girl had said.
Naaman and his servants traveled to see Elisha. When Elisha heard why Naaman was there, he sent a messenger out to meet the general.
"Go wash in the Jordan River seven times," the messenger told the important general.
Naaman got mad. I've wasted my time," complained Naaman. "This Elisha didn't even bother to come out and see me himself. He just sent out a messenger. And why should I wash in the dirty water of this river? There are cleaner rivers where I live. I'm an important general. Washing in a river is too easy."
"But General Naaman," said the servants, "we know you can do hard things. Since the prophet Elisha gave you such an easy thing to do, why not try it?"
So Naaman went to the Jordan River and washed seven times. When Naaman came out of the river, his skin was healed.
Naaman went back to Elisha and told him that he now believed in God.

Elisha the Healer (2 Kings 5:1-19) Reading
When this story was written, people didn't go to doctors like we do today. Instead, they went to healers. Elisha was a prophet who healed people.
Naaman was a powerful general in the king's army. He was a good man. But there was something wrong with his skin. Scabs and sores covered his body. Naaman needed help. He need his body to be healed.
A young woman had been brought from Israel by the army. She worked for Naaman's wife. The young woman said, "Your husband's skin can be healed. I know who can help him. It is the prophet Elisha who lives in Samaria."
Naaman went to Samaria to find the prophet. Elisha was home when Naaman showed up with his horses and chariots. Elisha sent a servant to talk to him. The servant said, "Wash yourself in the Jordan River seven times. Then your skin will be healthy and clean."
Naaman, the big, powerful general, did not like that message. He stormed off, muttering, "I came all this way to see Elisha, the healer, and he just sends a servant to me? I'm an important general! Elisha should come out and heal me himself. I don't want to hear silly instructions from his servants!"
One of Naaman's servants followed him. He bravely asked, "If the prophet had said to do something really hard, you would have done it, right? Why not do this really easy thing and be healed? Go on. Take seven baths in the Jordan River and see what happens."
Naaman listened. He went to the Jordan River. Naaman bathed in it seven times. When he came out, the scabs and sores were gone. Naaman's skin was healthy and clean!
Naaman sent for Elisha, and said, "I didn't think it would work, but it did. Now I know that the God you believe in is real. You are a powerful and important prophet!
Naaman tried to give Elisha gifts to say thank you. Elisha said, "No, I will not accept your gifts."
Naaman went away thankful for clean and healthy skin. And he believed in God.
