Overview of Job
Job begins with a scene in heaven. The Adversary came before God and complained that Job loved God and avoided evil only because God blessed Job with a great family and lots of possessions. The Adversary said that pain would make Job stop trusting God. God disagreed but allowed Job to experience suffering. Soon Job faced every kind of awful suffering. He lost all his wealth. His children were all killed in a storm. Sores broke out all over his body. Job wondered why his life was so full of pain.
This book asks big questions like Will we still love God if bad things happen to us? Why do bad things happen? Why do good people suffer? Why doesn't God fix our problems?
The book doesn't give all the answers. There are many speeches where Job and his friends try to understand suffering. At the end of the story, God responds to all these questions by telling Job that God is the only one who understands everything.

Giving up Isn't Really Easy (Job 1-2) Reading
Sometimes people think that when something is hard to do, giving up is easy. But it may be that when you give up, you miss out on important things. Have you refused to give up something that was important things. Have you refused to give up on something that was important to you?
Job was a good man. He had lots of children and friends, and he had a lot of things. Job followed Go and lived his life in the ways that God wanted.
One day, God said to Satan, an accusing lawyer in heaven, "Don't you see Job, isn't he great? No one is as good or faithful to me as Job is."
"I bet Job wouldn't be faithful to you if he had nothing. He's only happy because he has his family and a lot of money and food," Satan teased.
God said, "Take everything away from him. He'll still be a good person. He'll still be faithful to me, even if he has nothing."
So Satan took everything away from Job. His children and all the people who lived in his house died, and all of Job's things were gone too. Job was very sad, but he didn't get mad at God. Job knew that God was in charge. Job knew that God loved him. It would have been easy for Job to give up on God. But Job knew he still wanted to be faithful to God.
God said to Satan, "See, Job is still faithful to me. Your plan didn't work."
"Well, if he were sick," said Satan, "he wouldn't be happy or faithful to you. It will be too hard for him, and he will give up on you."
God said, "Make him sick. He will still be faithful to me." So, Satan made Job very sick. But Satan's plan didn't work. Job was still faithful to God even though he was very sick.
Job's wife was upset with him. "Why are you still faithful to God? It would be easier to give up on God. Just give up."
But Job said, "No, I'll be faithful to God. Sometimes bad things happen. I can't just give up on God. It's not that easy." Job still refused to give up on God, even if it was easier than being faithful.

God Remembers Job (Job 19;38) Reading
Sometimes things happen to us that we don't understand. They can be good or bad things. It is really hard to understand why bad things happen to us.
Job had always been faithful to God. Even when he was sick and lost everything, he still loved God. Job's wife told him to give up on God. But Job refused. Then Job's friends came to visit him because they heard he was sick.
All of Job's friends thought that he must have done something wrong. God was good. If bad things were happening to Job, it was because God was punishing him. Job's friends told him, "God does bad things to bad people and good things to good people."
But Job knew that was not true. Sometimes, bad things happen to good people. Job knew that this was not what God did. Job knew that God was still with him, even though bad things had happened to him.
But Job still did not understand why these things were happening to him. He began to question God. God listened to Job's questions. "I know that it has been hard for you. But why do you question me? I am God. I have done many things that you do not know about. You cannot begin to understand what great things I have done."
Job thought about what God said. He thought about the things that had happened to him. He thought about how people had told him to give up on God. Sometimes, bad things happen in our lives, but God is still there. Job began to see that God was still good and that God still loved him. God loved him even when things happened that he didn't understand.
There are many people in our world who feel like God punishing them, just like Job's friends told him. But even when we are sad our hurting. God is still with us and loves us.
