The Peaceable Kingdom (Isaiah 11:6-9) Reading
A long time ago, God sent a message to the people. The message said that a little child would come and teach us how to live in peace.
When there is peace, a wolf can sit with a lamb. When there is peace, a cow and a lion can share their food without fighting. When there is peace, young bears and young cows can be friends and play together.

You Are Not Alone (Isaiah 43:1-7) Reading
Have you ever been afraid? Everyone is afraid sometimes. That's okay. The people who heard the words God gave Isaiah knew what it was like to be afraid. They were living in a very scary time. They were forced to leave their homes, and they weren't allowed to go back.
Some people felt as if their whole world was ending. What was going to happen? Would they ever be able to go home? Did God even love them anymore?
Isaiah wanted to give God's people hope and encouragement. God had this message for them: "Do not be afraid. I am with you. I know your name, and you are special to me. When you get into the water, I will be with you. I will not let the water get too high. When you walk through fire, you won't be burned because I will be with you. I am God. You are special. And I love you. I will bring you home again and make sure that you stay safe."
God knew that their lives were hard. Isaiah's job as a prophet was to bring these words to God's people. One day they were written down so that everyone would know that God is with them no matter what. Even when bad things happen, God is there with us. We don't have to do anything alone. God is with us even during the scariest times.

Justice and Jubilee (Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11) Reading
Isaiah was one of God's prophets. While Isaiah was praying, God spoke to him.
"Isaiah, listen," God said. "It's time to share good news with my chosen people, the people of Israel."
Isaiah wanted to talk to God. He knelt on the gorund. He held his hands out to God. "How can this be a time for good news, God? Your people are so tired. Many are homeless. Many are sad. Many are weak."
"I know," God whispered. "I am going to change all of that for my people."
Isaiah closed his eyes tight. He listened closely and wondered. How would God change things? What was God's good news?
"I will comfort kids who are sad," God said. I will give strength to people who are weak. Men and women will fix broken walls. Everyone will be joyful again!"
"You know what I love?" God asked Isaiah. "Justice! I want my people in Israel to have justice. They have been hurting and sad. I will help them feel glad. I will bring fairness to my people. I'm making a brand-new promise! Everyone who sees the people of Israel will know that I have blessed them. Not just the people in Israel now, but their kids - even their grandkids!"
Isaiah couldn't believe his ears. He could hardly wait to share God's message and shout the good news!

This book has three parts. Chapters 1-39 talk about serious problems with worship and government - how rich people were mistreating poor people. Chapters 40-55 address people who lived about two hundred years after the prophet Isaiah. They promise that God will bring God's people back to their homeland in Israel. Chapters 56-66 encourage and warn a generation who have returned to Israel.

Peaceable Kingdom (Isaiah 11:6-9) Reading
God's people were prisoners in Babylon.
They were THIRSTY.
They were HUNGRY.
They wanted to go HOME to their own land!
The prophet Isaiah was sitting on the temple steps when God gave him a message for the people. Isaiah stood up and called out God's words.
"Everyone ho is thirsty and hungry should come to me!"
The people smacked their dry mouths. They rubbed their hungry stomachs. How could God help their thirst and hunger?
"I will give you water. I will give you food!"
The people patted their empty pockets. "We don't have any money for water and food!" they said.
"You don't need any money. I will give you everything you need! Food, water, shelter, and safety. This is my promise. I will take care of you now and FOREVER!"
"I will return you to your HOME. I will send you back to the land I gave you!"
The people imagined living in their own land again. Could it really be true?
"Follow ME. My ways are the BEST! Do you see how the sky is much HIGHER than the earth?"
All God's people looked UP.
"That's how much BIGGER and BETTER my ways are than yours!"

The story takes place before Israel had kings. Israel's tribes were facing a famine (that means there was no food), so Naomi, her husband, and their two sons moved to a new place called Moab. While there, Naomi's sons got married. Eventually, Naomi's husband and her sons died. Naomi and one of her daughters-in-law, Ruth, moved back to Israel together. Ruth promised to stay with Naomi no matter what.
