Jesus' Baptism (Mark 1:4-11) Reading
Jesus' cousin, John the Baptizer, was in the wilderness. John was inviting people to be baptized. The people came to John to confess the things they had done wrong and promised to do better. Then John took them into the Jordan River and baptized them.
Jesus traveled from his home in Nazareth to the place where John the Baptizer was baptizing people in the river. John baptized Jesus.
When Jesus came up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven open, and the Spirit, like a dove, came down on him. There was a voice from heaven that said, "You are my Son. I love you. You make me happy."

The Four Friends (Mark 2:1-12) Reading
Jesus went back to Capernaum. People heard that he was there and came to his home. There were so many people at the house that there was not space for even one more person!
Jesus was teaching the people when four friends arrived carrying their friend who was paralyzed to Jesu on a mat. The friends could not carry him through the crowd.
The four friends did not give up! They carried the man who was paralyzed to the roof. They tore through the roof of the home and lowered their friend on his mat to Jesus.
Jesus saw their faith and said, "You are forgiven! Get up and walk."
Right away, the man picked up his mat and walked out in front of the crowd. Everyone was amazed. They praised God!

Jarius's Daughter (Mark 5:21-24; 35-43 Reading
When Jesus arrived at the lakeshore, a crown of people were waiting for him. Everyone crowded around Jesus.
Jarius, an important leader, came rushing up to Jesus. He fell down at Jesus' feet. "Jesus!" cried Jarius. "My daughter is really sick. Please come make her better."
Jesus and his disciples followed Jarius to his house. While they were walking some of Jarius's friends stopped them. Jesus and Jarius stopped walking to listen to Jarius's friends. "Your daughter is dead," said the friends. "Jesus doesn't need to come."
But Jesus shook his head. "No," said Jesus. "Don't be afraid. Keep trusting."
Jesus took two of his helpers and went to Jarius's daughter. She was lying on a bed. Her mother stood beside the bed, crying. "Why are you crying?" asked Jesus. "The child is not dead. She is only sleeping."
Then Jesus took the girl's hand. "Little girl," Jesus said, "get up!" And the little girl got up and began to walk around!

Go Two by Two (Mark 6:7-13) Reading
Jesus called his twelve friends and said, "I want you to go out healing and preaching, go two by two. Take nothing with you on your trip - you may only take a walking stick. Don't take bread or bags or money in your belts. You may wear sandals, but don't wear two shirts."
Then Jesus told his friends how to behave. Jesus said, "Choose a house where you are welcome to stay. Stay in that house until you leave that place. If you aren't welcomed, leave that town and shake the dust off your shoes. Pray for people, heal them, and make them well!"

Bartimaeus Shouts to Jesus (Mark 10:46-52 Reading
Jesus and his crowd of followers had traveled to Jericho and were on their way out of town when they noticed a man named Bartimaeus sitting beside the road. Bartimaeus was blind, so he could not see. Bartimaeus was begging for someone to help him. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was there, he began to shout, "Jesus! Please help me!"
The crowd around Bartimaeus told him to be quiet, but he just shouted louder, "Jesus! Please help me!"
Jesus heard Bartimaeus and told Bartimaeus to come to him. Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus.
Jesus asked Bartimaeus what Jesus could do for him. The blind man said, "Teacher, I want to see!"
Jesus said, "Go! Your faith has healed you!" At once, Bartimaeus was able to see and he followed Jesus.

Jesus Breaks the Bread (Mark 24:12-26) Reading
On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, Jesus' disciples asked him where they should prepare the Passover meal. Jesus told two of the disciples what to do, "Go into the city of Jerusalem. A man carrying a water jar will meet you. Follow him."
"When he goes into a house, tell the owner that the Teacher and his disciples will eat there in hist guestroom. That's where you should prepare the Passover mean."
The disciples did just what Jesus said, they prepared the Passover meal.
That night, Jesus and his twelve friends arrived for the meal.
During the Passover meal, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to his friends. Jesus said, "Take this is my body."
Jesus took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. Jesus said, "This is the cup of the new covenant."
Jesus and the disciples finished the mean, sang songs of praise, and then went out to the Mount of Olives.

Jesus Chooses Twelve Disciples (Mark 3:13-19) Reading
Who are your teachers? Think about anyone who helps you learn something new. Teachers also help us figure out problems on our own. After our teachers know that we can solve problems, they give us new things to do. And when we become really good at doing them, we can teach someone else.
Jesus loved to teach, He also knew that many people wanted to hear him teach, and he couldn't do it alone.
One day, he went up on a mountain and asked some people to go with him. He chose twelve men and called them disciples. The disciples were Jesus' students.
Jesus asked Simon to join him and changed his name to Peter. Peter means "rock." He also chose Peter's brother, Andrew. Jesus chose two other brothers, James and John. Their dad was Zebedee, but Jesus called them "Sons of Thunder." Jesus also made disciples of Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, and Thomas. There was another disciple named James; his dad was Alphaeus. Jesus made Thaddaeus a disciple. He also chose another man named Simon who was from Canaan. Judas was also chosen by Jesus. Sometimes these twelve disciples are called the Twelve.
Some of the men were fishermen. One was a tax collector. But Jesus showed them how to do new things. Jesus taught the Twelve so that they could tell other people about God. When they were ready, Jesus sent them to teach about God and heal people who were sick. The disciples traveled with Jesus until the day he died. With the Twelve, Jesus began his work knowing that he would have help. He had help from God and the disciples.

Jesus Touches People (Mark 8:22-26) Reading
Jesus was amazing! Sometimes he would speak and incredible things would happen. Sometimes people needed to be touched by Jesus to be healed. In this story, Jesus touched a man two times before the man was better.
Jesus and his disciples traveled into the town of Bethsaida. People brought a man to Jesus who could not see. They begged Jesus to touch him.
Jesus took the man's hand and led him out of town. When they were alone, Jesus put his own spit on the man's eyes and touched him. "Can you see anything?" Jesus asked the man.
"Yes," the man answered. "I see people. But they don't really look like people. They look more like trees that are walking."
Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes again. Jesus looked right into his eyes. Suddenly, the man could see perfectly.
"I can see!" said the man. "Jesus healed me!"
But Jesus sen him home saying, "Do not go back into town."

Jesus Blesses the Children (Mark 10:13-16) Reading
In Jesus' time, people thought children weren't important. But Jesus thought that they were very important. One day, Jesus and his disciples walked from one town to another. Crowds of people came to see them. The crowds made it difficult for everyone to get close to Jesus.
Some parents brought their children to Jesus so that he could bless them. The disciples are annoyed that the parents and children were coming to Jesus.
"Jesus is far too busy to bother with a bunch of children," they complained to one another. "He has more important things to do."
They tried to stop the children and their parents. "Go away!" they cried. "Look at all these people! Jesus is much too busy to see you today."
The children were disappointed. They wanted to see Jesus.
The parents felt sad. They wanted Jesus to bless their children. Jesus was upset when he saw his friends pushing the children and their parents away.
"Let the little children come to me," he said. "I want to be with them. Don't keep them from me!"
The children ran up to Jesus and gathered around him laughing.
The disciples were puzzled. "Why is Jesus spending time with children? Look at all these people. They are more important."
Jesus could see that his friends didn't understand.
"You think that children are not important," said Jesus. "You are wrong. Children are important to God. They can teach us about loving and trusting and living in God's ways. Watch and learn from them."
Then Jesus hugged each child, placed his hands on each head, and blessed each one.
